Prompt: Both Victor and Mo are ambitious to the point of obsession. What are their greatest desires and what are willing to pay or sacrifice to achieve their goals?

Victor and Mo each have their own personal ambitions that drive them to obsession, and both men are willing to give up precious things to achieve this ambition. Since Victor’s childhood he has had a deep love for science and all things concerning the creation of life. Victor’s greatest desire is to create life, and not just a life, but a gorgeous perfected body for that life. The reader sees him sacrifice all his time to the study of this process. He also gives up relations with other people. Victor isolates himself from all the people that love him. Henry Clerval is often used as his outlet into human connection, but even he has to go out of his way to get Victor to spend time with him. Even then, Victor was in a different place entirely mentally. Victor goes so far as to sacrifice himself for this ambition of creating life. He pours every ounce of his time, his heart, his effort, and his emotions into this project. Through this obsessive behaviour demonstrated by Victor, the reader sees his connection to people, himself, and even rest in general is thwarted by his unhealthy ambition.

Mo’s greatest desire is to have companionship. He is willing to do anything to gain acceptance. As Mo witnesses human interaction he realizes the brevity of his desire to partake in it for himself. Mo holds resentment towards the world because of the rejection he has faced since his waking moment. Mo is willing to sacrifice his humanity because had he not killed anyone, many people would possibly be able to accept him. Instead, he proves himself a monster through his fits of rage. Mo gives up his chance to be with all humanity or even look upon them when he proposes the idea of a female monster like himself. He promises that they will run off into the wilderness and will never be seen again leaving behind true humanity all together. He sacrifices other people for the sake of revenge and to gain a companion. The reader is able to see that Mo becomes desensitized to the importance of life as he continues to kill. Mo’s obsessive behavior leads him down a dark and dangerous path where he gives up his chance to be accepted as a true human, his connection to humanity, and the idea that lives are precious as seen in his search for revenge.
